Ready to vacation somewhere new?

Very few people only visit Africa once – the combination of scenery, wildlife, people and unforgettable experiences mean that as soon as you’ve had a first taste of Africa, you’ll be wanting to return – and that’s where we can help.

As a more expert African traveler, you may well already be familiar with some of the continent’s most renowned destinations, such as the Okavango Delta in Botswana and Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. You may also have experienced watching the Great Wildebeest Migration in the Serengeti and going on game drives in the neighboring Masai Mara.

The good news is that Africa boasts an almost never-ending supply of equally remarkable destinations. Not all of them are as famous as the ones we’ve already mentioned, but you can trust us when we say they are just as deserving of your time and attention when planning your next vacation.

Great Wildebeest Migration

Wetland wonderlands

The Okavango Delta in northern Botswana has become a safari hotspot for its combination of varied scenery and concentrated wildlife, but it is by no means the only wetland worth visiting on safari. As an expert African traveler, you should certainly consider the Bangweulu Wetlands in Zambia. These definitely count as ‘undiscovered’, and offer a vast area of swamps, lakes and rivers and astonishing biodiversity. This includes some of the same species as the Okavango, while Bangweulu is also one of the best places in Africa to spot the iconic shoebill bird. Known as ‘the place where the water meets the sky’, a visit to Bangweulu will scratch your wetland itch and give you adventurer bragging rights.

More accessible but no less wonderful, the iSimangaliso Wetland Park in South Africa protects a remarkable variety of habitats, including coastal forests, lakes, estuaries and coral reefs. It’s a magnet for birdwatchers and offers many different activities ranging from hiking to fishing and diving.

Peak adventure

As well as being Africa’s tallest mountain, Kilimanjaro is arguably the most famous. Reaching the summit is certainly an experience we would recommend – but if you’ve already ticked that off your Africa travel bucket list, then we’d encourage you to take a look at some of Africa’s other remarkable mountain peaks and ranges.

Mount Kenya is not quite as high as Kilimanjaro, but offers similar unique ecosystems and exceptional hiking and views, and even opportunities to experience ice-climbing. Namibia’s Spitzkop is an equally exciting natural ‘playground’ for hikers and climbers, with the added bonus of desert wildlife and scenery, and some of the continent’s best stargazing.

Wildlife on the move

The Great Wildebeest Migration is often included as a ‘must-do’ experience on people’s first East African safari itinerary, but if you’re traveling here for the second, third (or tenth) time, then why noy ask our advice about equally remarkable wildlife action happening elsewhere on the continent.

These include the Kasanka bat migration in Zambia (believed to be Africa’s mass movement of mammals by number of participants, with up to 10 million fruit bats darkening the skies each year), the ‘other’ wildebeest and zebra migration in northern Botswana and most colorful of all, the movements of great flocks of flamingos between the lakes of the Rift Valley.
